APY and Rewards
Understanding APY (Annual Percentage Yield)
APY, or Annual Percentage Yield, is a key metric in the world of cryptocurrency staking. However, it's important to understand that there are different methods of calculating APY, and the actual yield can vary depending on your chosen staking method.
APY Calculation Methods
Simple APY: This method doesn't account for compound interest and provides a basic estimate of annual yield.
Floating APY: This metric changes dynamically based on various factors such as the total number of stakers, market conditions, etc.
APY Based on Staking Method
Liquid Staking with xSOL
The APY for xSOL depends on the SOL/xSOL ratio in the pool at any given time. This dynamic relationship means that the APY can fluctuate based on current market conditions and pool composition.
Native Staking
When directly staking SOL through our validator, the APY typically ranges from A% to B%. This figure may be more stable but could deprive you of liquidity benefits.
Complex Concepts
Floating APY in Staking Pools
Floating APY is a dynamic metric that can change in real-time. It's important to note that we have practiced artificially increasing APY for our token holders in the past. This was done by redirecting additional SOL that exceeded the xSOL backing into a reserve pool. In such situations, the excess SOL is redistributed among all xSOL holders in proportion to their share in our pool, effectively increasing the APY.
While this approach can lead to attractive APY figures, it's crucial to understand its implications. For instance, even if you see an APY of 200% for liquid staking, this doesn't guarantee that you'll receive 200% returns throughout the entire year. Our replenishment of the reserve pool can temporarily boost this metric, but over time, the APY tends to normalize to levels more consistent with the overall cluster.
The advantages of this approach include potentially higher short-term returns for our users. However, the main drawback is the potential for volatility in APY figures. Users should be aware that exceptionally high APY rates are often temporary and may not reflect long-term earning potential.
We strive for transparency in our operations and encourage our users to stay informed about these dynamics when making staking decisions. As always, we recommend considering multiple factors beyond just APY when choosing your staking strategy.
It's important to understand that floating APY is not guaranteed and can both increase and decrease over time.
Tools for Self-Study
For a deeper understanding of APY and to calculate potential rewards, we recommend using the following tools:
StakeWiz
Stakewiz is an analytics and utility website serving the Solana ecosystem. One of its key features is the ability to check the APY (Annual Percentage Yield) of validators. This is a valuable tool for users who want to optimize their SOL staking. By aggregating information about validators and the entire Solana network, Stakewiz provides helpful guidance for selecting validators with the best APY.
Solana Compass
Solana Compass is a comprehensive resource for users, developers, and investors interested in the Solana ecosystem. The site offers a wide range of information, including the latest news, educational materials, analytics, and technical data. It provides tools for comparing validator APYs, allowing users to make informed decisions about staking. With interactive charts, regular updates, and in-depth guides, Solana Compass serves as an essential guide for anyone looking to navigate the fast-growing world of Solana blockchain, from newcomers to experienced blockchain enthusiasts.
Liquid stake pools APY
Kagren's Dune Dashboard
Kagren's Dune Dashboard is analytics tool developed by the operator of Nordic Staking validator and developer at The Vault. This dashboard focuses on displaying APY (Annual Percentage Yield) and TVL (Total Value Locked) for single validator stake pool LSTs (Liquid Staking Tokens) in the Solana ecosystem.
Sanctum LST Overview
sanctum.so is a web platform for liquid staking on the Solana blockchain, offering a convenient tool for viewing and comparing APY (Annual Percentage Yield) of various Liquid Staking Token (LST) pools. Users can access a comprehensive list of available LST pools, each presented as an individual project card. These cards contain key information about the pool, including current APY, allowing for quick comparison between different staking options.
